Marble Pumpkin Painting: This timeless craft is very simple and fun! Cut an orange pumpkin and a brown stem out of construction paper. Place both cutouts inside of a box lid or cookie sheet. Dip marbles into tempera paint and drop them into the box lid or cookie sheet. Show your child how to tilt their box (or cookie sheet) to make the marbles roll around. They will LOVE how the marbles paint their pumpkin!
The Mysterious Floating Pumpkin Head and The Flying Bat: If you have forced air with floor vents in your home, then this is a simple activity that will amaze your children. First, blow up an orange balloon and turn it into a jack-o-lantern with a permanent black marker. Next, blow up a black balloon. Cut bat eyes, pointy bat teeth and black wings out of construction paper and tape them onto the balloon. Have your child hold their balloon over the floor vent and watch as the warm air holds it in place. As the air inside of the balloon heats up, the Pumpkin Head and the Flying Bat will float up higher and higher!
In a small mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup of baby shampoo, 1 tablespoon of corn starch (this will thicken your paint), and 2-4 drops of tempera paint. Colin easily (and quite happily) washed the black, yellow, and orange paint off of the shower walls. The paint left no stains behind!
