Many years ago, my husband and I decided that *someday* we would keep chickens. *Someday* finally arrived one month ago when eight yellow Buff Orpington chicks arrived in a tiny cardboard box by Priority Mail to our local farm store. We were asked to pick up our new backyard chicken flock within the hour!
Yesterday afternoon, the boys were playing King and Knight of New Hampshire. (Of course, Colin declared himself King and requested a crown!) Owen gave him a bucket to wear on his head and we laughed, and laughed, and laughed, as there really is nothing sillier than a King wearing a Bucket Crown! As the boys played, I sat down in the grass and noticed that the abundant growth of Dandelions, Wild Violets, and Forget-Me-Nots did make our yard look rather kingdomly and lovely. Did I remember how to make Flower Chain Crowns?
Is there anything more magical to a child than a cloud of shimmering bubbles floating up towards the sky? I don’t think so!
Every spring, I look forward to starting flower and vegetable seeds with the boys. It usually starts off well enough, and I begin to feel hopeful that this will be the year that the seeds actually grow. Continue reading
